Peekskill to apply for county flood-mitigation funds for Lockwood Drive culvert

Planner Carol Sammel said the city engineer’s earlier estimate put the project around $2 million; the county grant would match approximately 50% (up to about $1 million).
Sammel said staff proposes using $200,000 of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds that had been allocated to a different project as part of the local match and would cover the remaining approximately $800,000 through bond financing if awarded. She cautioned the application requires a firm cost estimate and that the application deadline was imminent.
Council members expressed support and noted the urgency of stabilizing the culvert to avoid recurring emergency measures.
