County approves mobile diagnostic imaging contract to reduce inmate transports

Elk County commissioners approved a one‑year contract (with automatic renewal) on Aug. 6 to retain Diagnostic X‑Ray out of Erie to perform on‑site mobile imaging services at the county prison.
Prison staff explained the previous mobile X‑ray provider informed the county in early July that they were dropping the county as a client. Diagnostic X‑Ray submitted an offer for on‑site imaging—including X‑ray, ultrasound and EKG—that staff said would allow the medical team to obtain exams without transporting inmates to external facilities. The board heard that these mobile calls typically occur only a dozen or so times per year but that on‑site service saves correctional staff time and transport costs.
The prison board recommended the contract and commissioners approved it by voice vote.
