The Elk County Board of Commissioners voted Aug. 6 to enter a contract with Clearview Comprehensive Treatment Center to provide methadone continuation for inmates currently on the medication.
County and prison officials said the service is "methadone specific" and will involve the treatment center delivering weekly medication to the jail; a county nurse will administer doses on site. That arrangement is intended to eliminate routine transports to external clinics and reduce correctional staff hours. The prison board reviewed and recommended the contract earlier that morning and the commissioners approved the motion unanimously.
Officials said usage has been limited in the past but spiked in recent months, which prompted the request; the contract was described as replacing the need to transport inmates to other counties for medication delivery. Funding for the contract was stated as reimbursable by opioid trust funds when applicable.
