At the Aug. 6 Land Use Board meeting, board member Ben Mento highlighted a private rehabilitation at 124 Billingsport Road and urged the borough to promote similar projects as a model for multi-family housing turnaround. "The new owner of 124 Billingsport Road did a great job rehabbing and the new tenants are very nice," Mento said, adding that Paulsboro should "use these kinds of rehabs as an example for multi-family homes."
Mento recommended the borough develop a plan for multi-family redevelopment and to pursue government monies or grants to support property owners and developers, saying many owners "either do not have the money or they do not want to invest in something with little return and too much risk." The Solicitor responded with a procedural remark that applicants need to be "sensible in the process." No formal direction, funding commitment, or vote on a redevelopment program was recorded in the meeting minutes.
