Councilman updates residents on Xfinity fiber rollout, says east side service coming this year

"The mayor asked me to give an update on the fiber rollout within the community," Larson said, noting the franchise agreement with Comcast/Xfinity and that construction "is concerned, they've made quite a bit of progress." He said the company reported about "350 customers that are live on their new service out east of town" and that phases 6, 8, 9 and 10 covering the eastern and southeastern portions of the city are expected to be available for sign-up "through November and December of this year." Larson said remaining portions inside the city are likely to come online in "the spring to summertime of next year."
The council's discussion emphasized that the work is being done in utility easements and that installers should tag doors before beginning work with contact information. Larson framed the rollout as expanding options for residents seeking more reliable internet service: he recounted a family who moved away because of poor connectivity and said the new service "gives citizens an option" to stay connected.
The council did not take a separate action on the fiber update; the presentation served as an informational briefing and residents were advised to contact the provider directly about localized construction issues.
