Hunter board approves modest increase to employee health insurance buyout

Budget Officer Lara Hamrah-Poladian explained the buyout “is currently $2,500 for singles and $5,000 for family,” and said the town’s health-insurance costs for employees who do not contribute 10% toward premiums are “between $34,000 and $31,000” annually. The board had previously increased plan deductibles to $3,250 for single coverage and $6,500 for family coverage as part of cost-control measures.
Board minutes show the increase is intended to maintain the buyout as an employee incentive in the face of rising insurance costs; the board did not change employee contribution percentages during this meeting.
