Code Enforcement Officer Rose Santiago told the Town Board she has identified 139 permitted short-term rentals (STRs) in the town while Granicus, the listing service used by the department, shows approximately 200 properties.
"There are currently 139 permitted short term rentals in the Town of Hunter, adding Granicus is reporting approximately 200 in the town," Santiago said. She told the board some owners have switched to seasonal rentals of 30+ days, some units have been sold, and the Granicus module for certified mailings is not yet fully functioning, leaving staff to perform much manual follow-up.
The board increased anticipated STR revenue in the B2770 account to $85,000 from an earlier $30,000 projection. Supervisor Mahoney asked the code office to prioritize bringing active rentals into compliance rather than pursuing billing for properties that are no longer operating as short-term rentals.
Santiago also asked that the department hotline number be posted on the town website to aid compliance outreach; she noted many letters sent to LLCs were returned to sender.
