Hunter board approves targeted fund-balance transfers as part of 2025 budget adjustments

The Town of Hunter board voted unanimously to move $10,000 of fund balance into General Fund A under line A1430.11 as part of final adjustments to the 2025 tentative budget. Councilman David Kukle made the motion and Supervisor Sean Mahoney seconded; the motion passed 5–0.
Budget Officer Lara Hamrah-Poladian told the board the current budget document “shows a 4.8% increase in the Village and a 4.5% increase in the Town.” The board discussed retaining $23,000 for the town’s Granicus service while using fund balance to help cover other costs; they also discussed budgeting for a floating assistant position that could be partially funded from fund balance.
Hamrah-Poladian said she had budgeted conservatively for NYCLASS revenue and proposed covering part of the $10,000 transfer by increasing A2401 revenue by $5,000 (to a total of $30,000) and offsetting the remaining $5,000 with fund balance. Supervisor Mahoney accepted that approach during the meeting.
The board’s motions on fund balance and revenue estimates were procedural steps intended to finalize the tentative budget; the board did not adopt a final tax levy or set a final adoption date during the session.
