Council opens public hearing on draft 2026 municipal budget; splash pad idea raised for Southwest Park

The Pipestone City Council opened a public hearing July 21 to gather input on the draft 2026 municipal budget. Chair presided and said department heads have begun preparing their budgets and that council members may attend budget meetings beginning next week.
“We have begun the process. Department heads are working on their budgets, and we'll begin meetings next week,” the chair said, inviting councilors to participate. The chair relayed requests raised to them by daycare providers for a small splash pad at Southwest Park to give young children an additional amenity. The chair emphasized it would be “not a huge splash pad, but just one or two amenities” for little children. No members of the public spoke in the council chambers during the hearing.
The chair and staff stressed that departmental reviews and budget workshops will continue; the chair closed the hearing after hearing no further comments. Council members were encouraged to contact staff if they want to sit in on budget meetings; the chair noted that posting requirements apply if more than three councilors attend a workshop.
