Commissioner says county will consider letter backing railroad CRISI grant application

Commissioner Paula Carson told the Airport Advisory Board that at the next County Commission meeting the commission "will be considering a letter of support for the railroad to apply for the CRISI grant," a move she said could enable expanded freight-transport opportunities in the region.
Airport Manager Bill Calderwood said the county-owned Industrial Park could be expanded south toward the railroad tracks to support potential future freight activity. Calderwood also said he will follow up on outreach; he told the board he will "reach out to Sheldon Mudd" to continue work on the county's letter to regional aviation and transportation stakeholders.
The discussion included no formal vote by the advisory board; Carson presented the planned commission-level action to inform the board and staff. No funding commitments or formal agreements were made at the meeting; board members asked staff to continue coordination and report back when the commission takes up the letter.
