The applicant, Gabe, told the board his engineer missed the pole on a recent survey after Pearl Street repaving; he said moving utilities would be “substantial” and time‑consuming because multiple services (power, internet, phone, cable) run on the pole and Green Mountain Power owns it. Gabe said shifting the driveway a few feet onto his property was a faster, practical fix.
Staff and the city engineer confirmed the proposed driveway shift keeps adequate parking and that the fire department can operate within the adjusted geometry. A board member asked about corridor improvements and speed limits; staff said the city council has endorsed a Pearl Street multimodal scoping study that calls for a reduced speed limit and shared‑use path. The board moved, seconded and approved the amendment with staff conditions.
“As I became aware of it when I returned through Chris… my engineer missed the one of the poles,” Gabe said during the hearing. The board voted in favor and the motion carried.
