Bedford delegation briefs council on state funds, PFAS settlement and local-control bills

Ricciardi highlighted restored meals-and-rooms revenue sharing that she said “doubled to over $2.5 million for Bedford,” and noted Bedford’s share of a PFAS settlement of $4.68 million. Both legislators described concerns about bills they view as eroding municipal control; Rombeau said she values municipal input and does not support legislation she believes could have unintended consequences for towns.
Councilors and the town manager raised specific pending bills. Town Manager Rick Sawyer and Representative Rombeau discussed HB 340, proposed electioneering limits affecting public employees; Rombeau said she worried “that the bill would have a chilling effect and would impact municipal employees.” The delegation also discussed HB 1300, which would require towns to place a school tax-cap question on the ballot; Rombeau characterized that as a local-control issue and encouraged Bedford’s officials to keep communicating with the delegation.
