Chamber asks Indian Lake for more funding and agenda time as director departs

Paul Szczesniak, a member of the Indian Lake Chamber board, told the Town Board on Jan. 8 that the Chamber has about 80 members and would welcome continued town support after the director resigned following funding reductions. He asked the board to consider additional funding and requested 15 minutes on the next meeting agenda to outline plans for 2024.
"We had 80 members and will continue to work with the Town to succeed to by serving our community the best that we can," Szczesniak said, noting the Chamber will rely heavily on volunteers during the transition. Supervisor Brian E. Wells acknowledged a long, uneven relationship between the town and the Chamber and said the board is trying to balance different constituent views about whether taxpayer funds should support a business organization.
Szczesniak proposed closer collaboration with the school, fire department, ambulance, library and the Indian Lake Community Development Corporation (ILCDC) and asked the town’s special-events coordinator to share volunteer lists to ease the transition. The board did not commit to additional funding at the meeting but said it would continue to work with the Chamber and consider the request.
