Huron Planning Board weighs parking rules, looks to MRB Group and Climate Smart points

The Town of Huron Planning Board spent the Oct. 2 meeting discussing draft parking regulations and how the town should regulate parking-lot design. Planning Board member Kyle Shultes cautioned against overreach, saying, "just because the word 'parking' is in it, it doesn’t mean that there would need to have an update applied to those sections." He recommended that detailed lot design be left to a licensed architect or engineer who can ensure ADA compliance.
Board member Deb Stuck said she has been working with Supervisor Dave Fantuzzo on the town's Climate Smart initiative and suggested incorporating relevant language into the parking regulations to earn points toward grant eligibility. Chairman George Steffler said he reached out to the MRB Group as a resource; the board heard that MRB will not charge the town for initial assistance and that MRB will return for the Nov. 6, 2024 meeting to provide further guidance. Eric Cooper of MRB Group was present as a guest to discuss guiding the town on parking policies.
