October permits: Piedmont staff report 35 planning applications, uptick in solar permits

Planning Director Kevin Jackson presented the monthly informational report on permit activity for October 2025. He told the commission the city received 35 planning permit applications during the month; staff approved 34 and denied 2. On the building-permit side, staff reported 128 submissions and 127 approvals. Jackson emphasized that many of the planning permits were expedited design reviews and that staff are processing several SB 9 applications.
Jackson also highlighted a noticeable increase in solar-permit work. "So, in fact, 27 solar permits were submitted and 31 were approved," he said, noting residents seek to take advantage of available federal tax credits. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about the breakdown of permit types and staff said detailed monthly figures are available in the packet and staff will continue monitoring trends.
