Resident urges Hudson Falls to consider detaching from Town to lower taxes; board notes town approval required

During public comment, Stan Young of Oak Street said Hudson Falls residents are paying higher taxes and raised the possibility of the village detaching from the Town to eliminate the town tax, asserting "We are paying two taxes, the Town and the Village." He told the board he had compared local rates to nearby communities and suggested pursuing city status or separation as a remedy.
Trustee Michael Horrigan replied that Hudson Falls is within the Town of Kingsbury and that certain decisions remain subject to town authority. Attorney Bill Nikas told Mr. Young that "the Town must agree to it" and, when asked about separate assessing, said "the value is the value," questioning how a new assessor would change valuations. The board did not take action on detachment at the meeting.
