Huron Town Board enacts Local Law permitting certain licensed cannabis uses

The Huron Town Board voted Nov. 19, 2024 to adopt Local Law No. 5 of 2024, amending the town zoning law to permit certain cannabis-related uses in specified districts when licensed by New York State. The resolution was adopted AYES 4, NAYS 0 (Councilmember Cahoon absent). Supervisor Dave Fantuzzo reported the law had been approved by Wayne County Planning and that the board had completed an Environmental Assessment Form (EAF) and designated itself lead agency.

The board’s written findings, recorded in the minutes, state the Local Law clarifies appropriate locations for properly licensed cannabis businesses and establishes special-permit and site-plan review requirements. The minutes record the board’s determination under 6 N.Y.C.R.R. §617.7(c) that the Local Law would not cause a significant adverse environmental impact; the county approved the Local Law on Sept. 25, 2024, and a public hearing was held Oct. 29, 2024. The town clerk was directed to file the enacted Local Law with the New York State Secretary of State. No immediate implementation dates or licensed businesses were specified in the meeting minutes.
