Staff said the Secretary of State requires a graphic 'no guns' sign at polling places and confirmed the sign will be posted on the blue boards and in the BCA binder. Members discussed a recent incident where someone had a sidearm holster in the parking lot and noted that a weapon becomes a violation once it crosses the polling place threshold.
Members agreed the response in such a case is to call the South Burlington Police Department. "There's not any weapons allowed on the polling location," staff said, and members confirmed enforcement responsibilities and encouraged presiding officers to call police if someone threatens voter safety or interferes with voting.
