At its Jan. 6 organizational meeting, the Smith-Green Community Schools board recognized four juniors—Nola Wayanske, Charlotte Elliott, Delaney Ott and Sarah (last name not specified)—as 2027 Rising Stars, a program of the Indiana Association of School Principals that spotlights high-achieving juniors.
Miss Smith, who nominated the students, said the award is given to juniors who "have to be enrolled in advanced courses, earn high scores on AP and PSAT assessments, be involved in extracurricular activities, and display leadership qualities." She added that the selection helps increase scholarship opportunities for nominees. "These 4 ladies are being recognized this month," Miss Smith said during the meeting.
The board applauded the students and noted the recognition reflects both classroom success and community involvement. The acknowledgement came at the start of the meeting during the student spotlight portion of the agenda; no formal action was required.
