Havens principal outlines drop in elementary test results, lays out literacy and math interventions

Havens Principal Suzanne Reed presented a detailed state-of-school report, describing declines in Havens' CAASPP outcomes over the past three years and a set of locally driven interventions. "Over the last 3 years, there has been a decline in our overall ELA performance and our overall math performance, by 10% in ELA and then by 8% in math," Reed said, and described steps the school will take to address the trend, including monthly math-data inquiry meetings using Bridges unit assessments, expanded DIBELS analysis by subtest, and continued rollout of the Fish Tank literacy curriculum.
Reed emphasized social-emotional supports and community-building work—Values Awards, Hello Havens activity tables, affinity mentors—and noted plans to pilot classroom-level supports to help students who show foundational skills on DIBELS but do not demonstrate those skills on CAASPP. The principal also described operational fixes (better benchmark data capture in Illuminate) and said she will continue daily instructional walkthroughs, with periodic reports back to the board on progress.
