Union City Council approves package of ordinances, resolutions and grant application

Union City Borough Council on Sept. 16 voted unanimously on a series of administrative and regulatory measures, including amendments to two local ordinances, a CDBG grant application for storm-water repairs and a tax-exoneration resolution.
Council approved advertised amendments to Parking Ordinance No. 1137 and Zoning Ordinance No. 1118. The zoning change adds definitions and regulations for redemption games (games of skill) and a new section authorizing accessory structures on adjoining lots; the parking revisions update schedules I, II and IV and tighten rules on unlawful and disabled vehicles. Both motions passed on unanimous votes (motion texts recorded in the minutes). The council also approved a resolution exonerating $5,563.49 in taxes on the property at 121 East High after the Land Bank purchased it.
Separately, councilors authorized submitting a Community Development Block Grant application to Erie County seeking up to $100,000 to fund part of storm-water repairs in Municipal Lot #1. Councilors additionally moved to advertise an amendment to the tenant-registration ordinance that would allow the borough to charge violators more than once per year if they fail to provide required information. The meeting record shows all listed motions carried unanimously.
Procedural business included approval of the Aug. 27, 2024 minutes, acceptance of the secretary’s report and authorization for payment of bills. Trick-or-treating in the borough was set for Thursday, Oct. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., also by unanimous vote.
