County consolidates employee coverage under Florida Blue; board agrees to absorb 11.67% renewal increase

Staff recommended the county absorb the 11.67% increase and keep employee rate splits unchanged; they noted a small payroll premium change for some dental/vision options and that a $200 out-of-pocket increase for a specific root-canal benefit will be added to the county HRA so employees will not see an increased out-of-pocket cost for that procedure. "We are recommending that the Board of County Commissioners absorb that increase... and that the rate splits would stay the same for the employees," staff said.
Several commissioners expressed concern that the insurance committee and commissioners had not received renewal materials earlier in the process; staff said the materials had been circulated by email to constitutional officers and HR staff and pledged to improve timing for next-year renewals. After discussion, the board approved the insurance renewal and plan changes as presented.
