Council told data center standards will be considered for inclusion in building performance rules in December

Council member Campos asked whether proposed uniform standards for data centers will be folded into the building performance ordinance. Deputy City Manager Manuel Pineda said staff are coordinating with the City Manager’s Office and will bring recommendations to Council in December 2026, including options to require data centers to participate in the audit process without exceptions.
"So as part of the data center standards, we are gonna be looking at building performance ordinance, and we're gonna come forward with recommendations to the council in December as to what modifications can be made to include data centers as part of the audit process," Pineda said. Council members welcomed the update and noted that data centers are a material part of the city's large-energy customers.
