Union City Council moved on multiple police personnel items during its Oct. 7 meeting. Council accepted a resignation letter from part-time Officer Rick Skonieczka, effective no later than Sept. 30, 2024, by motion of Councilor Joyce and seconded by Councilor Steadman.
The council also authorized Chief Pernice to complete background checks for two candidates on the Civil Service certified list and to hire two part-time officers, following a motion by Councilor Joyce. After executive session on personnel and contracts, Councilor Steadman moved and Councilor Kerns seconded a motion to approve a police contract for Zackery Shelly; the motion carried unanimously.
