The EDC voted to explore selling or gifting Settlers Park to the city of Bandera after lengthy discussion about liability, floodplain constraints and possible future uses.
A board member moved that the EDC gift the park to the city; the motion was seconded and opened for discussion. Residents and board members raised concerns the parcel is in a flood plain, needs cleanup and may require ADA upgrades to function as an accessible park. One participant, identifying themselves as an insurance agent, urged removing the "park" label because of hazardous conditions. The mover explained the parcel was initially purchased for a community project in 2021 and has not been developed.
The board amended the approach to authorize staff to explore sale or gift options and report back; that motion passed. The decision transfers the question of development and funding for remediation to the city if either option proceeds.
