The Franklin City Commission voted to approve temporary street closures for the 63rd annual Franklin Car and Craft Show, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19.
Amy Ellis, introduced by the mayor as the community services representative, outlined the plan: the Friday cruise will prompt closures beginning about 4 p.m., and on Saturday the event runs until 3 p.m. with streets requested to remain closed until about 4 p.m. “The event is over at 3. We we ask to keep it closed until 4,” Ellis said during her presentation. The motion to approve the closures was moved, seconded and carried by the commission.
The commission’s approval follows longstanding practice for the show; Ellis told commissioners the same streets used in prior years will be closed and city staff will begin openings as soon as the crowd has cleared. The city did not report any unusual new traffic-control measures or additional public-safety staffing on the record.
The measure was approved by voice vote after a motion by Commissioner Stewart and a second by Commissioner Bush. The city will post the closure schedule and proceed with coordination between community services and public works ahead of September’s event.
