JFS of Orange County showcases volunteer-driven Senior Independence Program to Highland Falls board

Representatives from Jewish Family Services (JFS) of Orange County presented the senior-independence and volunteer programs to the Highland Falls Village Board on Dec. 1, urging residents to volunteer and explaining services available at no cost to seniors.
Paula Blumenau, community outreach and volunteer engagement for JFS, described volunteer transportation for routine medical appointments, grocery shopping assistance, friendly visits, wellness calls and case management including memory-care support. "Everything that we do is at no cost to our seniors," Blumenau said, and she invited interested volunteers to take informational flyers and to connect with the program.
JFS said it partners with the Office for the Aging and has added counselors to provide mental-health supports and is expanding food-security efforts. The presenters said the program seeks steady local volunteers and will return for outreach to senior clubs in January.
