Highland Falls continues public hearing on short-term rentals to Jan. 5; attorney to be present at special meeting

The Highland Falls Board of Trustees voted to continue the public hearing on a proposed short-term rental permitting and regulation law until at least Jan. 5, 2026. Mayor DeSalvo said the complexity of the proposed regulations and absent attorney at the workshop prompted the board to schedule a special meeting in January with the village attorney present for a focused discussion.
The mayor told the public she expects the board to keep the hearing open through the Jan. 5 meeting and that, following the special meeting with counsel, the board might aim to pass a regulation by February. A resident asked whether the board would publish proposed changes in the local paper before the next hearing; the mayor said proposed changes would likely be published after the work session and before the next public meeting.
Trustees emphasized the volume of public input and the need to get the legal details right before final action. The board did not take final action at the Dec. 15 workshop and instead scheduled follow-up meetings to allow for attorney review and additional public input.
