Highland Falls board closes public hearing on short‑term rental rules, plans work session

Mayor DeSalvo reopened the public hearing on regulating short‑term rental properties in one‑ and two‑family homes and explained that the draft law focuses on registration, insurance, parking and maintenance rather than additional taxes or intrusive inspections. He told residents the measure is intended to identify out‑of‑area owners and LLCs operating rentals and that the draft drew from another community's ordinance.
"It's just really to create a law to, in general terms speaking, mostly monitor, not so much like I'm gonna be coming into your house and checking it out," Mayor DeSalvo said. The mayor and trustees said the current draft is likely to be modified during an upcoming work session; if modifications are significant, a new public hearing will be scheduled. Trustee Ramis moved to close the hearing; Trustee Gargiulo seconded and the motion carried.
The board said the item will return after a work session where trustees plan to "hammer out" changes, at which point they will judge whether another public hearing is needed. Residents were directed to the village website for a copy of the draft law and to expect follow‑up at future meetings.
