Highway superintendent: J33 delivery, ditching, staff training and equipment updates

Highway Superintendent Chris Sorrell reported operational progress and staff training plans and asked the board to approve immediate equipment purchases. Sorrell said J33 (5 ton) is finished and scheduled for delivery to the town on Oct. 23 or 24, crews have begun ditching and truck inspections, Church Lane will be closed temporarily for sidewalk prep, and staff hearing tests are complete.
The board authorized equipment spending at Sorrell's request, including the $40,000 paver/roller purchase and a $2,915 sander-chain purchase. Sorrell also announced that Alex will begin CDL classes, Chris B. will take his Class B test on Oct. 31, and multiple employees are scheduled for MSHA pit training, reflecting an emphasis on staff certification and readiness.
