The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District opened a public hearing Dec. 8 to add an explicit sudden-cardiac-arrest annex — labeled Section 7 — across the district safety plan and each building’s plan.
A staff member explained the change stems from recently enacted state legislation and a 2009 student fatality that spurred the law’s authorship. “We are adding Dasha's law to our safety plans, which is all about sudden cardiac arrest,” the presenter said, describing a requirement to list AED locations, the staff trained to use them, and step-by-step emergency procedures.
District staff said the hearing begins a required 30-day public comment period, with the draft safety plan posted on the district website and a Google form available for feedback. Building-level annexes are due to central office by Friday, Dec. 12; the revised district plan will return to the board for adoption on Jan. 12 to meet the state’s Jan. 20 submission timeline. The presenter added the district has ordered additional AED units and will fold sudden-cardiac-arrest training into existing annual professional development.
No public comments were offered during the hearing. The chair closed the public portion and the board reconvened into regular session.
