District unveils monthly, data-driven ‘resource’ model for high-school special education

"So resources are supplemental skill instruction based on individual students' needs, so that they can access the general education curriculum," Kara said as she described the link-based approach, monthly instructional themes, and a move away from ad-hoc homework help toward explicit strategy instruction. The presentation described 80-minute instructional blocks that balance direct instruction, guided practice and individual support, with digital trackers and shared data tools to monitor progress.
Board members asked for clarifications about implementation and compliance; Kara and the presenter said the model is being coordinated across building leadership, special-education teachers and the department chair, with walk-throughs planned and periodic progress monitoring to ensure fidelity. The board was told the approach responds to inconsistencies previously observed and is intended to increase measurable progress toward students' IEP goals.
