Athletic handbook updated; board hears proposals for flag football, transportation changes and 7th-grade play-ups

Mister Wheeler (speaker 3) presented a redesigned, hyperlinked athletic handbook intended to make information easier for parents to find, covering registration, practice expectations, chain of command for complaints and a universal communication plan for coaches.

Wheeler outlined a number of policy and operational proposals: a new transportation form to document authorized pick-ups; revised substance-abuse consequences that can remove a student from a team for illegal activity while offering counseling for self-reports; a three-year uniform-replacement plan funded in part by booster clubs; and a request to approve a varsity girls spring flag-football team if enough athletes (13) sign up. Board members asked about roster minimums, combining teams with neighboring districts if needed, how out-of-section travel costs would be covered, and whether exceptional 7th graders could play up in non-contact sports. Wheeler said exceptional 7th graders could be considered on a case-by-case basis with sign-off by the athletic director.
