Mayor outlines $14,000 estimate for annual utilities at planned animal shelter

"So currently, right now, we, share the cost of facilities with solid waste department annually that's running about 7,000 a year... those are running about, $14,000 a year," S5 (the mayor) said, listing water, sewer, electric and gas as included in that estimate. He said the larger DARC facility runs about $56,000 a year in utilities as a point of comparison, but cautioned the final insurance and other operational costs will depend on the facility's contents and usage.
The mayor said the county expects some offsets, including reduced gasoline use from more centralized storage and potential modest revenue from a rentable community room. Staff will return with written estimates for public posting and additional detail to answer residents' questions about long-term operating costs and funding sources.
