During new and continuing business at the Nov. 17 meeting a board member raised whether the district will consider adjusting school start times; Superintendent Dr. Ruka said the district is beginning conversations with nearby superintendents about the research and logistics of coordinating bell schedules across districts.
"Are we going to consider that at all, or are the superintendents having discussions among yourselves?" a board member asked. Ruka replied that several districts had expressed interest and that "we all kind of agreed to, talk about it," noting that some districts have had different start times for decades and others are studying the issue.
Separately, Ruka proposed partnering with the board on a community forum after the holidays using three stations to gather feedback on equity, the district's portrait of a graduate and safety upgrades; he suggested food and interactive stations to encourage attendance and recommended scheduling the event in January.
