The Climate Smart Task Force reported on a sustainability and energy fair held in September and recommended donating the event surplus of $164.64 to GEMS for theater and kitchen upkeep. The motion to donate the surplus was moved, seconded and adopted.
Task force members also outlined near-term renewable-energy work: they are finalizing RFP specifications for a roughly $160,000 solar installation and reviewing heat-pump installations that could tip the town toward higher efficiency tiers. The task force estimated the solar project would "save about $67,000 a year in electricity charges" and suggested some of those savings and grants could be used to offset the town's out-of-pocket costs on equipment and installation. Board members discussed how the $20,000 in potential heat-pump-related grant funding could be applied toward related projects such as solar or office heat-pump installs.
