Town says lead service‑line survey nearly complete; unknowns could trigger replacement work
Summary
Town staff told the board the lead service‑line survey due to the Department of Health on Oct. 16 is near completion after door‑to‑door follow‑up reduced unknown properties from about 250 to roughly 25; unknown lines could require excavation and replacement if the department treats remaining unknowns as lead.

The town's water/wastewater operator reported the lead service‑line inventory is due to the state Department of Health on Oct. 16 and that a final door‑to‑door effort should reduce remaining unknowns to a few dozen properties. The operator said roughly 250 properties originally did not respond to the mailed survey and that staff have brought that number down to about 25 through in‑person checks.
The operator warned that if the Department of Health treats the remaining unknown service lines as lead, the town could have to plan and budget for excavation and replacement work until inspections prove otherwise. “That is due into the Department of Health by October 16,” the operator stated, noting the town will pursue outreach through local news and door‑to‑door follow up to avoid unnecessary replacement costs.
