County to post Appalachian Power herbicide SDS and maps after resident inquiry

Scotty Hilton, Patrick County facilities director, updated the board on vegetation management and herbicide applications carried out by Appalachian Power Company. Hilton said AP reported two circuits included in this year’s vegetation management plan (Stuart Bowling Spring Circuit ~203 miles and Stuart Scribe Circuit ~272 miles) and that contractors Progressive Solutions and Aspen had applied herbicides in the county.
Hilton listed products AP identified in their custom blend and said the company provided safety data sheets (SDS) and mixture ratios; he said the county intends to post the SDS files and maps to the county website once AP finalizes them. A board member asked whether the information could be posted; Hilton said it would be posted as PDFs and that the county had only received the material a short time before the meeting.
The board encouraged quick posting to allow residents to review product information and planned spray locations and to follow up with the facilities director if further questions arise.
