IT staff proposes switching to county AT&T contract to cut telecom costs and add EOC redundancy

Brian, who oversaw the county's telecom plan, presented an analysis showing savings from switching the county's telecom purchases from a state contract to a direct AT&T contract and described a plan to add redundancy to the Emergency Operations Center.
"AT and T is offering a new contract for 3 years at $3,049 a month," Brian said, adding that prior vendor changes have reduced monthly spending and that a county contract could drop costs further. He said the county has already lowered overall monthly spend by roughly $8,000 in recent months by shifting services between Comcast and AT&T and that the proposed change would yield additional savings (he cited annual savings of about $6,941 on the sample set).
Brian also proposed adding a second 250 Mbps fiber feed to the EOC to provide a redundant path alongside the existing Comcast feed; commissioners asked whether equipment changes were included and staff confirmed the plan adds equipment and redundancy. Brian said the actual contract will be brought to the commission once the law director has reviewed it.
