Marcy Baker, principal of Jamesville Elementary, told the Jamesville‑DeWitt Central School District board that the school’s instructional team is implementing a targeted effort to strengthen math instruction and family connections. Baker said the school enrolls 344 students (plus 11 in an OC state program) and has reorganized planning time to support grade‑level content planning, vertical alignment across grades K–4, and intensified AIS/math intervention groups to address gaps found in third‑ and fourth‑grade assessments. “So the big takeaways for math is a focused effort to improve instruction is to have stronger outcomes,” Baker said.
Baker also outlined a family‑engagement initiative driven by the building‑level team (BLT). After reviewing the district climate survey (27 family responses), the BLT designed an expanded Jamesville‑specific family engagement support survey and a monthly newsletter posted on ParentSquare and in paper for families who need it. Baker said 69 families responded to the local follow‑up survey push and reported interest in home practice resources, safety information about the new school patrol officer (SPO), and clearer communication about visitor check‑in (Raptor). Baker said a follow‑up survey will be run near parent conferences in June to assess whether the newsletter and resources are helpful.
