Facilities committee urges redesign of UPK drop-off after safety observation

A facilities committee member told the board that the UPK (Universal Pre-K) drop-off currently places children in a parking area where they must cross a road used by buses. "They're being dropped off in the parking lot in front of the main doors, and they need to cross the road where the buses are coming in to let students off," the committee member said, and added that the committee recommended a reconfigured drop-off to improve safety.
The committee also reported that new UPK playground equipment will meet guidelines and that signage and restricted public access during instructional hours will be reinforced. The board noted the campus is heavily used and said staff will remind the community about restricted access and dog policies during instructional periods.
