Budget committee approves one-time retention payments from unassigned fund balance

The committee voted to approve a one-time retention payment plan the mayor presented: $2,000 for employees who have worked at least one year and $750 for permanent part-time staff who regularly work more than 20 hours per week.
"The request is not being incorporated into the budget as ongoing or impacting this year's budget or next year, it would be a one-time from the general fund unassigned fund balance," the mayor said. Commissioners approved the motion by voice vote after a motion from Commissioner White and a second by Commissioner Beauchamp was recorded.
The mayor confirmed the sheriff's deputies were not included in this distribution and staff said the plan would not increase base salary going forward.
