Bastrop proclaims October Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Family Crisis Center highlights local partnerships

The City of Bastrop proclaimed Oct. 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month during its Sept. 30 meeting.
Bernie Jackson, interim executive director of the Family Crisis Center, thanked the city for the proclamation and outlined the center’s partnership with police, parks and the convention center for prevention and outreach efforts. Jackson asked residents to support the center’s “It Takes Everyone” campaign and noted the city will light four public buildings in purple during October to promote awareness.
Jackson cited national statistics during her remarks: "1 in 3 women, 1 in 5 men will experience intimate partner violence during their lifetime," and urged residents to call the center’s hotline for confidential assistance. The council approved the proclamation and invited the community to participate in the center’s October events and the Women’s Leadership Luncheon on Oct. 9.
