Rezoning proposal for land east of Public Works on S. Hwy 95 deferred until after Oct.1 open house

Planning staff summarized a rezoning and Planned Development District proposal for about 7.39 acres east of the Public Works yard along S. Highway 95, showing proposed mixed use with first-floor retail and three stories of residential above. Staff and the applicant emphasized the need for a traffic-impact analysis, additional parking standards and outreach to adjacent neighborhoods and organizations (including youth baseball groups) and scheduled a public open house for Oct. 1 at the convention center to gather feedback.
Given that open house date, the developer requested and council agreed to postpone formal action until Oct. 21 so staff can incorporate community input. Planning staff said the town-hall-style event will include the developer and city staff and stressed contact with senior-center stakeholders and local organizations.
