Planning staff reported the board awarded the comprehensive-plan contract to AES North Northeast and said legal review remained ongoing but the agreement was ready to be signed soon.
"We formally scheduled the open house the public open house for the Thursday, October 17, here and in this room and in the gymnasium," the staff member said, and added that a draft survey would be issued at the same time and run for approximately a month. Staff said the next meeting would focus on reviewing the survey and finalizing plans for the open house.
Board members asked whether zoning could be part of the comprehensive-plan work. Staff said zoning could be considered during the public process but that actual zoning changes would require a separate study and likely a separate grant application. Members discussed the town’s last comprehensive-plan update and offered differing recollections of prior dates; one member said there had been no update since 1991 while another recalled the last update was in 1997.
A committee member volunteered to lead the planning subcommittee for the comprehensive-plan process and staff noted that more recent plans can affect grant eligibility. The board set Oct. 9 as the date for their next meeting and said public comment and the survey will be on that agenda.
