Rockford Board certifies Nov. 4 referendum; both ballot questions carried

The Rockford Board of Education met in a special session on Nov. 12, 2025 and unanimously adopted a resolution canvassing the Nov. 4 general election returns. Member Johnson moved adoption of the "Resolution Canvassing Returns of Votes of School District Special Election," and Member Gordee seconded; the board approved the resolution on a 4-0 roll call vote of members Gordee, Johnson, Hillstrom and Sjodin.
The resolution records that 2,347 voters cast ballots on School District Question 1 (to increase the district's referendum revenue authorization for taxes payable in 2026 and thereafter), with 1,383 voting in favor and 964 voting against. It records that 2,346 voters cast ballots on School District Question 2 (a capital project levy to fund district technology for taxes payable in 2026 and thereafter), with 1,369 voting in favor and 977 voting against. Because Question 2 was explicitly contingent on passage of Question 1—and Question 1 passed—the board declared Question 2 carried as well.
The resolution directs the Clerk to certify the results of the election to each county auditor in which the district is located and to notify the Commissioner of Education of the special election results within 15 days following adoption of the resolution. The board's minutes note the formal finding that the Nov. 4 special election "was in all respects duly and legally called and held."
