Jericho superintendent outlines Regents options for physics, chemistry; decision due in two weeks

The Jericho Union Free School District superintendent told the board on Aug. 4 that students will have a choice to take either the new or the older versions of the physics and chemistry Regents exams, and that the district will announce a decision on local assessment procedures within two weeks. "Students may may either take the new version of the Regents exam or the older version of the Regents exam," the superintendent said, adding that district staff will clarify curriculum, standards and resources for families.
Doctor Sherman, who addressed instructional materials, said the district has gathered a suite of NGSS-aligned resources to prepare students for the new exams, including a newly purchased New York State Earth and Space review book (purchased March 2025) and shared digital practice items used statewide. "Every resource that was available, we had," Doctor Sherman said, describing a mix of commercial workbooks (BioZone, Wonder of Science), shared Google Drive Regents prep files and cluster-question practice drawn from other states. The district said the new review books will be issued to students for the 2025–26 school year.
