Royalton school board approves student handbook, student resource officer and routine consent items

The Royalton Public School District board unanimously approved a package of routine and policy items at its Aug. 11 regular meeting, including the 2025–26 student handbook and the district’s Student Resource Officer (SRO) arrangement.
"Approval of Agenda. This motion, made by Ellie Holm and seconded by Jon Andres, Passed," the board clerk read as the meeting began, and later recorded additional motions and votes throughout the evening. The board approved the consent agenda—including minutes, claims and accounts, personnel changes, a fuel bid and the 2025 football fundraiser—by a 6–0 vote after a motion by Randy Hackett and second by Ellie Holm.
The board also approved membership in the Minnesota Rural Education Association (MREA) and accepted donations by resolution. The donations motion was recorded as moved by Maria Traut and seconded by Rian Hofstad; the roll-call voting detail in the minutes lists Andres: Yea; Boyd: Yea; Hackett: Yea; Hofstad: Yea; Holm: Yea; Traut: Yea.
Several items were informational or first readings only, including a multi-item policy first reading and routine reports from the superintendent and principal. The meeting included two closed-session periods—one to discuss negotiation strategy under Minn. Stat. 13D.03 and one for the superintendent evaluation under Minn.
