Board adopts 2026–27 goals; trustees agree to keep bullets as internal guidance
Summary
The West Linn-Wilsonville SD 3J board adopted four statement‑style goals for 2026–27 after debate about whether retreat 'sticky-note' bullet points should be formal goal text; trustees will use bullets as implementation guidance and staff will help format them for public communication.

The board voted to adopt its 2026–27 board goals as four concise statements and agreed that the retreat bullet items would remain a supporting communications device rather than the formal goal text. Director Cherry moved to adopt the goals "that are the provided numbered elements without the bullet point lists," and Director Sloop seconded; the board recorded 'Aye' votes and the motion passed.
Trustees debated whether the bullet points should be integrated into the goal language or used as reference notes. Director Wyatt said she had "wordsmithing edits" but did not want to change substance; other trustees noted the value of keeping the goals as statement language and using the bullets to guide implementation and public outreach. The superintendent told the board he had incorporated the board goals into his own goals and will share those documents with trustees.
Board members also discussed minor editorial items — including whether to add the word "transparency" to goal statements — and several trustees volunteered to work with staff on polishing public-facing materials.
