Student representative reports record year for Coffee Cave, recaps fall sports and upcoming events

Student Representative Sahara Sankoh reported to the Brookings-Harbor School District Board at its Nov. 12 meeting that the student-run Coffee Cave enterprise posted a record year in profits and has been using earnings to fund student incentives such as free popcorn, t-shirts and pizza parties.

Sahara also summarized fall athletics at Brookings-Harbor High School. She said senior football players described Senior Night as “bittersweet” after a 10–32 final score but that players expressed pride in teamwork and effort. She provided a brief recap of other sports: volleyball concluded its season with strong sets, boys soccer felt they had a solid season despite not advancing as far as hoped, and girls soccer reached the quarterfinals, losing to Amity 1–6.

Sahara outlined upcoming student activities: a Powder Puff game scheduled for the following evening at 6:30 p.m., a district food drive running Nov. 3–14, and the Wizard of Oz theater production planned for February. She said many students are focused on finishing assignments before Thanksgiving Break, which is a full week off for the district. Board members asked follow-up questions about the Thanksgiving schedule and noted winter sports are expected to begin the week of Nov. 17.

The report gave board members an overview of student engagement and extracurricular programming and highlighted the Coffee Cave as a locally managed student enterprise that is directly supporting student incentives and activities.
